Husson Eliminates Baseball from NCAA Tournament, 10-6
The first seven batters of the fourth inning collected hits – with Ethan
Guerette (Wales, ME) clearing the bass with a single in the gap – as the
seventh-seeded Husson College baseball team remained alive in the 2009
NCAA Division III New England Regional Tournament with a 10-6 win over
eighth-seeded Babson College Friday afternoon at the Eastern Baseball
Stadium. The loss eliminates Babson (23-29) and sends Husson (33-13)
against either second-seeded University of Southern Maine or top-seeded
Eastern Connecticut Saturday at 11 a.m. The USM-Eastern winner faces
Husson and the loser becomes the fourth team to be eliminated in the
original field of eight.

WPI Hands Baseball First Loss, 15-5, In NCAA New England Regional
Fourth-seeded WPI scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to
break the game open in an eventual 15-5 victory over eighth-seeded
Babson College in a winners’ bracket matchup in the NCAA Division III
Baseball Tournament New England Regional at Eastern Connecticut State on
Thursday evening. With the loss, the Beavers (23-19) will now play
seventh-seeded Husson University in an elimination game on Friday at
1:15 p.m. WPI will take on the winner of Friday’s morning contest
between #2 Southern Maine and #3 Trinity at approximately 7:30 p.m. on
Friday night. Sophomore Billy Besinger (Milton, Mass.) went 2-for-5 with
a run scored in defeat for Babson, marking his team-leading 22nd
multi-hit game of the season. It also gave him 68 total hits for the
year, tying the program’s single-season record also held by Babson great
Kevin Higa ’03.

Aizenstadt Hurls Babson Baseball To 10-6 Win Over #3 ECSU in NCAA
Tournament
Sophomore pitcher Andrew Aizenstadt (Norwell, Mass.) struck out 10 in a
complete-game victory and first-year catcher Sean Cleary (Milton, Mass.)
had a grand slam and five RBIs to lead the eighth-seeded Babson College
baseball team to a 10-6 upset win over top-seeded host Eastern
Connecticut State University in game two of the NCAA Division III
Tournament Double-Elimination New England Regional on Wednesday
afternoon. It was the first-ever NCAA Tournament victory for the Beavers
(23-18), who are making the second national tourney appearance in
program history. Babson will now play fellow New England Women’s and
Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe WPI, seeded fourth in the
eight-team bracket, in game seven of the tournament on Thursday at
approximately 4:30 p.m.

Baseball Seeded Eighth In NCAA Tournament New England Regional
The NCAA announced its official 2009 Division III Baseball Tournament
field on Monday, and Babson College has been seeded eighth in the New
England Regional at Eastern Connecticut State University. The Beavers
will open the eight-team double-elimination bracket by facing the host
Warriors on Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. This is the Beavers' second NCAA
Tournament appearance, with the first coming in 2004. Babson earned a
spot in this year's field by winning its second New England Women's and
Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship two weeks ago.

Babson Celebrates Class of 2009 At 28th Annual Senior Awards Banquet
The Babson College Athletics Department held its 28th Annual Senior
Awards Banquet on Friday night, where a total of seven individuals were
honored. Men’s Soccer senior Tim Winn (Sutton, Mass.) was named Male
Athlete of the Class, while women’s lacrosse senior Jackie Godfrey
(Franklin, Mass.) was selected as the Female Athlete of the Class. Ice
Hockey senior Alex DiPietro (Winthrop, Mass.) was named the
Scholar-Athlete of the Class, and baseball senior Jeff Wojnar (Bellaire,
Texas) took home the Michael J. Conlon Award. In addition to the senior
awards, Professor Tony Wain was the recipient of the prestigious Paul C.
Staake Award for outstanding contributions to Babson Athletics, while a
pair of first-year athletes were also honored. Field hockey and softball
first-year Jess Pashos (Winchester, Mass.) received the Lori Vengrow
Award, and men’s tennis freshman Danny Schneider (Littleton, Mass.)
claimed the Colin "Chip" Brown Award.

Baseball Falls To #1 Southern Maine, 15-9
The University of Southern Maine hit four home runs at the plate and
received 6 1/3 outstanding innings of relief from its bullpen en route
to a 15-9 victory over host Babson College in a non-conference baseball
matchup at Babson’s Govoni Field on Thursday afternoon. With the win,
the Huskies, ranked first in the nation in the most recent National
College Baseball Writers Association weekly poll, improved to 32-5
overall, while the Beavers dropped to 21-17 with the loss. Babson was
led in defeat by senior co-captain Bryan Evans (Bellaire, Texas), who
went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, one run scored, and four RBIs,
and junior Peter O’Toole (Salem, Mass.), who went 2-for-5 with a double,
one run, and two driven in.

Six Honored As NEWMAC Announces Postseason Baseball Awards
After leading their team to its second NEWMAC Championship and NCAA
Tournament berth, six members of the Babson College baseball team
received postseason honors this week. Sophomore pitcher Andrew
Aizenstadt (Norwell, Mass.) was named NEWMAC All-Conference First Team,
senior co-captain Bryan Evans (Bellaire, Texas) and sophomore Billy
Besinger (Milton, Mass.) were named All-NEWMAC Second Team, and
sophomores Jeremy Bhatia (Silver Spring, Md.), Corey Highfield (East
Hampstead, N.H.), and Jonathan Marcus (Brookline, Mass.) were named to
the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team.

RIC Takes Slugfest From Baseball, 15-11
Rhode Island College scored six runs in the eighth inning to defeat
Babson, 15-11, in collegiate baseball action at Anchorman Field on
Wednesday afternoon. It was a nightmare for both squads' pitching staffs
as the two clubs combined for 26 runs on 39 hits, which included six
home runs, seven doubles and a triple. Junior Peter O'Toole homered for
the third straight game for Babson, junior Jared Bartlett went 5-for-5,
and junior Chris Wood belted the first home run of his collegiate
career.

O’Toole, Aizenstadt Receive NEWMAC Baseball Weekly Honors
After helping the Beavers sweep the New England Women’s and Men’s
Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball championship tournament, Babson
junior Peter O’Toole (Salem, Mass.) has been named NEWMAC player of the
week and sophomore Andrew Aizenstadt (Norwell, Mass.) has been named
NEWMAC pitcher of the week.O'Toole helped lead the Beavers to their
second NEWMAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth with a huge
offensive week, batting .400 with two doubles, two homers, four runs,
and five RBIs in the team's four tournament games. Aizenstadt made two
appearances during Babsons' 2009 NEWMAC Tournament Championship run,
going 1-0 with a save, a 0.00 ERA, one walk and eight strikeouts in 8
2/3 innings.

BABSON BASEBALL WINS NEWMAC CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 6-3 WIN OVER MIT
Babson senior starter Matt Barton (Washingtonville, NY) was effective
over seven and a third innings of work, and junior centerfielder Peter
O'Toole (Salem, MA) homered for the second day in a row, leading Babson
to a 6-3 win over MIT and the 2009 NEWMAC Baseball Championship on
Sunday at WPI. The title is Babson's second NEWMAC championship and
first since the 2004 season. Babson was a perfect 4-0 in the tournament,
registering two wins over MIT and two more over nationally-ranked and
defending NEWMAC champion Wheaton. The Beavers, by virtue of the
conference tournament championship, have earned the NEWMAC's automatic
bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships which will be played
in mid-May.

Baseball Rallies To Stun #13 Wheaton, 8-7, In NEWMAC Tourney
Junior Peter O’Toole’s (Salem, MA) two-run homer in the bottom of the
eighth inning lifted fourth-seeded Babson to a dramatic 8-7 victory over
second-seeded Wheaton to conclude day three of the 2009 NEWMAC Baseball
Tournament hosted by WPI. The Beavers (20-15) now advance to Sunday’s
championship round to face MIT, while 13th-ranked Wheaton (28-9) is
eliminated from the tournament. Babson takes home the title with a
single victory while MIT must win twice on Sunday to earn the
championship. Michael O’Brien (Shrewsbury, MA) went the first eight
innings for Babson, scattering 12 hits en route to improving to 4-1 on
the season, while senior Chris Legrow (North Andover, Mass.) pitched the
ninth for his third save.

Baseball Slams Wheaton, Advances To Winner's Bracket Of NEWMAC
Tournament
The fourth-seeded Babson College baseball team jumped out to an 11-run
lead before holding off number-two Wheaton College, 13-9 on Friday
during the second day of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament in Sidell Stadium. With the win, Babson
(19-15) advances to the winner's bracket and will play either Wheaton or
host WPI in Worcester on Saturday at 4 p.m. Babson was paced by the bat
of sophomore Billy Besinger (Milton, MA/Catholic Memorial), who turned
in a 3-for-3 showing while scoring three runs and walking twice, and the
arm of senior co-captain Jeff Wojnar (Bellaire, TX/Episcopal), who held
the potent Wheaton offense to just three runs in seven-plus innings
while scattering eight hits.

Baseball Trumps MIT, 5-4, In First Game Of NEWMAC Tournament
Senior Chris Legrow escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the
ninth as fourth-seeded Babson hung on to defeat third-seeded MIT, 5-4,
on the opening day of the 2009 NEWMAC Baseball Championship Tournament.
With the victory, Babson travels to Wheaton College for the second day
of the double-elimination tournament, while MIT travels to top-seed WPI.
Both games are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. Babson (18-15) sophomore
standout Andrew Aizenstadt delivered a gem on the hill to pace
Thursday’s win. The second-year starter scattered nine hits over seven
innings, but surrendered no earned runs while fanning seven MIT (19-10)
batters.

O'Brien Named NEWMAC Co-Pitcher of the Week
After his historic performance on the mound against Wentworth, Babson
College junior lefthander Michael O’Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.) has been
named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)
Co-Pitcher of the Week along with WPI ace Conor Fahey. In two
appearances this week, O'Brien went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, giving up no
runs, no walks, just six hits, and striking out 20 in 10 1/3 innings of
work. On Monday, he tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in a 5-4
loss to #3 Wheaton, allowing two hits and fanning two. Just three days
later, O'Brien returned to the mound and turned in perhaps the most
dominant pitching performance in Babson history, firing a four-hit
shutout while striking out a school-record 18 batters in a 3-0 win over
Wentworth. The Leopards had entered the game with a record of 20-8-1 on
the season.

Inducts Five Into Hall Of Fame To Highlight Athletics Alumni Celebration
Babson College hosted its first annual Athletics Alumni Spring
Celebration this weekend, bringing nearly 300 former players, coaches,
and family members to campus. Highlighting the spectacular weekend was
the 12th Babson Athletics Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony on
Friday night, where longtime baseball coach and administrator Frank
Millerick, baseball great David DiGangi '94, soccer stars Jim Fischer
'83 and Dan Pucci '98, and hockey standout Jim Creamer '90 were
enshrined among the department’s elite.

Baseball Rallies In Ninth To Salvage Split With Brandeis
Junior Peter O’Toole (Salem, Mass.) singled in the game-winning run in
the bottom of the ninth inning to help the Babson College baseball team
to salvage a split with an 8-7 walk-off victory over visiting Brandeis
in game two of a non-conference doubleheader at Babson’s Govoni Field.
The Beavers, who fell in game one, 5-4, are now 17-15 overall, while the
Judges move to 13-19 on the year. Sophomore Corey Highfield (East
Hampstead, N.H.) went 5-for-6 in the two games to pace the Babson
offense, while senior Chris Legrow (North Andover, Mass.) earned his
first win of the year in relief in game two, going four innings and
allowing two runs on five hits, walking none and striking out one.

Baseball Stuns Third-Ranked Wheaton, 6-3
The Babson College baseball team recorded its biggest win of the season
on Friday, as the Beavers knocked off nationally-ranked archrival
Wheaton College, 6-3, in a NEWMAC matchup at Govoni Field. With the
victory, Babson improved to 16-14 overall and 6-6 in the conference.
Wheaton, which entered the game ranked first in New England and third in
the country, fell to 25-5 overall and 9-1 in the NEWMAC. Senior Matt
Barton was outstanding on the mound for the Beavers, going 7 2/3 innings
and allowing just two runs on six hits, walking one and striking out
four. The win improved his season record to 3-1. Offensively, Babson
received another huge effort from sophomore Billy Besinger, who went
4-for-5 with a run and two RBIs. It was the second baseman's
team-leading 15th multi-hit game of the season, and his third four-hit
performance.

O'Brien Strikes Out School Record 18 In Four-Hit Shutout Of Wentworth
Junior lefthander Michael O’Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.) turned in one of
the finest pitching performances in Babson College history on Thursday,
striking out a school record 18 batters in a 3-0 shutout of the visiting
Wentworth Institute of Technology at Babson’s Govoni Field. The 18 K’s
surpassed the previous mark of 14 originally set by Major League
Baseball draftee Jason Kosow ’04 in 2003 and matched earlier this year
by sophomore teammate Andrew Aizenstadt (Norwell, Mass.). O’Brien (3-1)
was masterful throughout the ballgame, allowing just four hits – all
singles – while walking none. Sophomore Billy Besinger (Milton, Mass.)
paced the Beavers’ offense with his team-leading 14th multi-hit game of
the season, as he went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. First-year Travis
Jonasson (Needham, Mass.) also added pair of safeties – this 10th
multi-hit effort of the year – finishing 2-for-2 with a run scored.

UMass-Boston Explodes Past Baseball, 11-2
Visiting UMass-Boston erupted for nine runs in the first three innings
en route to an 11-2 victory over host Babson College in a non-conference
baseball game at Govoni Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the
Beacons improved to 10-15 overall, while the Beavers slipped to 14-14.
Sophomore Billy Besinger (Milton, Mass.) led the Babson offense out of
the leadoff spot, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. First-year Mike Martinez
(Miami, Fla.) added his first collegiate hit and RBI for the Beavers,
while first-year Billy Miller (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) and junior Jake
Bartlett (Weymouth, Mass.) each scored a run in defeat.

Baseball Rallies For Thrilling 8-6 Win At Clark
The Babson College baseball team used six runs on four hits to overcome
a 5-2 deficit in the seventh inning and post an 8-6 victory over Clark
University in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)
action at Granger Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Beavers
improved to 14-13 overall and 5-6 in league play. Babson starter Andrew
Aizenstad (Norwell, Mass.) allowed seven hits and two walks while
striking out nine to earn the win. Senior captain Bryan Evans (Bellaire,
Texas) led the offense with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored.

The Wheaton College baseball team overcame an early three-run deficit to
defeat Babson College, 5-4, in a NEWMAC matchup on Monday at Sidell
Stadium. Sophomore Billy Besinger (Milton, MA/Catholic Memorial) went
3-for-5 to lead Babson, junior Peter O'Toole (Salem, MA/Saint John's
Prep) was 2-for-4 with two runs, and classmate Jake Bartlett (Weymouth,
MA/Boston College) added a pair of knocks. Senior Jeff Wojnar (Bellaire,
TX/Episcopal) went 6.2 frames in the loss, yielding five earned runs on
seven hits.

Curry Overpowers Baseball, 10-3
The Babson College baseball team suffered a 10-3 loss at Curry College
on Friday, snapping the Beavers’ brief two-game win streak. Senior James
Geosits (Wyomissing, Pa.) belted a pair of three-run homers in the win
for the Colonels (21-3), while first-year Travis Jonasson (Needham,
Mass.) hit his team-high sixth home run of the season for Babson
(13-12). Along with his sixth round-tripper of the year, Jonasson also
drove in another run with the single in the sixth. The rookie first
baseman has now recorded at least one RBI in seven straight games and 10
of the Beavers’ last 12 contests.

Highfield, Beavers Walk Off With 4-3 Win Over Springfield
Sophomore Corey Highfield (East Hampstead, N.H.) blasted his first
collegiate home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as
the Babson College Beavers walked off with a 4-3 victory over visiting
Springfield College in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) baseball contest at Govoni Field on Thursday
afternoon. Highfield’s first career homer made a winner out of Beavers’
sophomore ace Andrew Aizenstadt (Norwell, Mass.), who tied Babson’s
all-time record for strikeouts in a game with a career-high 14 in a
magnificent complete-game effort. The hard-throwing righthander allowed
three runs – two earned – on 10 hits and one walk in nine brilliant
innings of work. The win improved his season record to 4-1, while the 14
strikeouts matched the program mark set by 2004 alumnus and Major League
Baseball draftee Jason Kosow back on March 19, 2003.

Evans Powers Baseball To 10-8 Comeback Win Over Endicott
Babson College senior co-captain Bryan Evans (Bellaire, Texas) capped
off a monster day with a go-ahead three-run double in the bottom of the
eighth inning to lift the Beaver Nine past visiting Endicott College,
10-8, in a thrilling non-conference baseball game at Govoni Field on
Wednesday afternoon. Evans was huge at the plate for the Beavers, going
3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored, and six RBIs on the
afternoon. Sophomore Billy Besinger (Milton, Mass.) added two hits and
two runs scored out of the leadoff spot, while first-year Sean Cleary
(Milton, Mass.) walked three times and scored four runs in the two hole.
Rookie Trevor MacNeil (Hanover, Mass.) earned the first collegiate
victory (1-2) with one inning of relief, and junior Jake Bartlett
(Weymouth, Mass.) got the final three outs to secure the save in the
first pitching performance of his Babson career.

Clark Fends Off Baseball, 8-6
First-year James Wilson and senior captain David Gagnon combined to
pitch five innings of scoreless relief as the visiting Clark University
Cougars held on for an 8-6 victory over host Babson College in a New
England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader at
Govoni Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Clark improved to 10-15
overall and 2-4 in the conference, while the Beavers dropped to 11-11
overall and 3-5 in the NEWMAC. First-year Travis Jonasson and senior
captains Bryan Evans and Jeff Wojnar each recorded two hits to pace the
Beavers. Wojnar also led the team with two RBIs, while sophomores Corey

The Babson College baseball team nearly overcame a five-run deficit with
a late rally against visiting Williams College on Sunday, but the
Beavers’ comeback bid fell just short as the Ephs held on for 9-8 win at
Babson’s Govoni Field. First-year Travis Jonasson (Needham, Mass.) once
again powered the Babson offense, going 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs
– his team-leading fourth and fifth of the season – to go with two runs
scored and four RBIs. Junior Jake Bartlett (Weymouth, Mass.) also had a
good day, going 2-for-3 with one run and one driven in, while sophomore
Billy Besinger (Milton, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with a double, a run, and
two RBIs.

Baseball Splits NEWMAC Twinbill With MIT
Babson College sophomore Andrew Aizenstadt (Norwell, Mass.) and MIT
first-year Torre Swanson (Redding, Calif.) traded complete game gems for
their respective teams as the Beavers and Engineers split a New England
Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader at Babson's
Govoni Field on Saturday afternoon. With the split, the Beavers move to
11-9 overall and 3-4 in the conference, while MIT is now 11-7 overall
and 2-3 in the NEWMAC. Game one featured an outstanding pitchers' duel
between Aizenstadt and MIT first-year Chris Vaughan (Fort Worth, Texas).
Aizenstadt went seven innings and allowed just one run on eight hits,
walked one and struck out seven. The victory improved his season record
to 3-1. Vaughan (1-3) suffered the loss despite allowing just two runs,
only one of which was earned, on six hits, walking none and fanning
four.

Defensive Woes Cost Baseball In Loss To Springfield
The Babson College baseball team committed seven errors that led to five
unearned runs as the Beavers suffered a tough 13-8 loss to host
Springfield College in a NEWMAC matchup on Thurdsay afternoon. Sophomore
Billy Besinger paced the Beavers in defeat, going 4-for-6 with a run and
two RBIs, while first-year Billy Miller went 2-for-4 with one run and
three driven in.

WPI Sweeps Baseball In NEWMAC Doubleheader
WPI received two brilliant pitching performances from first-year Sean
Minor (Los Angeles, Calif.) and senior captain Conor Fahey (Cumberland,
R.I.) as the visiting Engineers swept a New England Women’s and Men’s
Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball doubleheader at Babson College,
2-0 and 7-1. With the victories, WPI improved to 13-6 overall and 3-1 in
the conference, while Babson fell to 10-7 overall and 2-2 in the NEWMAC.
Game one featured an outstanding pitchers’ duel between Minor and Babson
sophomore Andrew Aizenstadt (Norwell, Mass.), who both went the distance
on the mound. Minor improved to 2-1 with his first collegiate shutout,
allowing no runs on five hits, walking three and striking out two in

Jonasson, Browne Lead Baseball to 16-2 Rout of Framingham State
First-year Travis Jonasson (Needham, Mass.) hit two home runs –
including his first career grand slam – and sophomore Jeff Browne (Vorhees,
N.J.) struck out 10 batters in six shutout innings as the Babson College
baseball team notched an impressive 16-2 win over visiting Framingham
State College in a non-conference contest at Govoni Field on Friday
afternoon. Jonasson’s career day included a solo homer in the bottom of
the first, a grand slam in the sixth, and a double eighth. For the game,
the rookie first baseman went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five
RBIs. Meanwhile, Browne was masterful in his first collegiate start for
the Beavers, going six innings and allowing no runs on just four hits,
walking one and striking out 10 to earn his first career victory.

Keene State Stifles Baseball, 4-1
Keene State College received a fantastic pitching performance from
sophomore righthander Corey Vogt as the Owls defeated Babson College,
4-1, in a non-conference baseball matchup at Babson’s Govoni Field on
Thursday afternoon. Playing as the home team in the contest, Keene State
improved to 8-6 on the year, while the Beavers fell to 9-5. Senior
starter Pete Bizinkauskas (Duxbury, Mass.) settled down after a shaky
first to go four innings for the Beavers, giving up four runs on eight
hits, walking one and striking out one. The loss dropped his record to
0-1. Junior Zach Rubin (Arlington, Mass.) added three scoreless innings
of relief, and senior Chris Legrow (North Andover, Mass.) came on to get
three key outs in the eighth, including the last two with the bases
loaded. Junior Brian Scanlon (Lawrenceville, N.J.) was the only Beaver
with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4.

Baseball Pulls Away From Plymouth State, 14-6
Babson snapped a 6-6 tie with four runs in the bottom of the sixth
inning en route to a 14-6 victory over visiting Plymouth State
University in a non-conference baseball contest at Babson’s Govoni Field
on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Beavers upped their record on
9-4 on the year, while the Panthers slipped to 3-8. Junior Keane
Steiding (Falmouth, Mass.) picked up the win in relief for Babson,

three runs, and three driven in, while junior Jake Bartlett (Weymouth,
Mass.) finished 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs. Sophomore Corey
Highfield (East Hampstead, N.H.) also performed well at the plate,
recording a pair of doubles and driving in two.

Jackson, Suffolk Outduel Baseball, 2-1
Senior lefthander Reid Jackson (Burlington, Mass.) fired a complete game
gem to outduel Babson College senior righty Matt Barton
(Washingtonville, N.Y.) as the Suffolk University Rams edged the host
Beavers, 2-1, in a non-conference baseball matchup at Babson’s Govoni
Field on a chilly Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Suffolk improved to
8-3 on the year, while the Beavers dipped to 8-4. Both pitchers were
outstanding in the contest, with Jackson (2-1) allowing just one run on
six hits, walking three, hitting a batter, and striking out five to earn
the complete game win. Barton (2-1) went seven innings in the start for
Babson, giving up two runs on six hits, walking one and fanning five.
First-years Travis Jonasson (Needham, Mass.) and Billy Miller (Sagamore
Beach, Mass.) were the only two players with multiple hits in the game,
as Jonasson finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and Miller went 2-for-3.

Baseball Opens Home Schedule With Doubleheader Split Against RIT
Junior Michael O’Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.) threw seven strong innings to
earn his second win of the year as the Babson College baseball team
earned a 4-1 victory over the visiting Rochester Institute of Technology
in game one of a non-conference doubleheader at Babson’s Govoni Field on
Sunday afternoon. RIT then earned a split by taking the nightcap, 13-7.
O’Brien was brilliant in game one, allowing just one run on six hits,
walking two and striking out five in seven innings. The complete game
victory was his second of the season in as many starts. First-year
Travis Jonasson (Needham, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a home run to pace
the Babson offense, while sophomore Billy Besinger (Milton, Mass.) added
two RBIs.

Baseball Opens NEWMAC Schedule With Sweep Of Coast Guard
Babson College had solid pitching performances from sophomore Andrew
Aizenstadt in the opener and senior captain Jeff Wojnar in the nightcap
as the Beavers swept Coast Guard 6-1 and 10-3 in a New England Women’s
and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opening doubleheader for both
teams. In the opener, Aizenstadt (2-0) went the distance as he pitched
seven innings and allowed six hits and one earned run while walking two
and striking out six. Wojnar (1-0) then allowed one run on two hits
while striking out eight in game two. Junior Peter O'Toole went 6-for-10
with a double, a homer, four runs scored, and three RBIs to lead the
offense in the two games, while sophomore Billy Besinger went 5-for-10
with two doubles, two runs, and three driven in.

Baseball Caps Off Stellar Week With 11-6 Win Over Lakeland
The Babson College baseball team wrapped up its very successful spring
break trip to Florida with an 11-6 victory over Lakeland College on
Wednesday morning. With the win, the Beavers return home with a record
of 5-2, while the Muskies fell to 1-5. First-year Jeff Buress
(Cumberland, R.I.) picked up the win on the mound for Babson - the first
victory of his collegiate career.

Baseball Topples Plattsburgh State, 13-4
The Babson College baseball team avenged Sunday's loss to Plattsburgh
State on Tuesday, as the Beavers defeated the Cardinals, 13-4. With the
win, Babson improved to 4-2 with one game remaining on its spring break
trip to Florida. Senior Matt Barton (Washingtonville, N.Y.) earned his
first win of the season for the Beavers, while classmate Pete
Bizinkauskas (Duxbury, Mass.) was credited with his first save after
throwing three scoreless innings of relief.

St. Lawrence Rallies Past Baseball, 8-6
The Babson College baseball team lost its second straight game on
Monday, as St. Lawrence University came from behind twice to edge the
Beavers, 8-6. With the loss, Babson dropped to 3-2 with two games to go
on its spring break trip to Florida. Babson jumped out to a big lead
early, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second. SLU then plated
five runs of its own in the top of the third to tie the game at 5-5. The
Beavers once again moved in front with a run in the sixth, but St.
Lawrence rallied again with two runs in the eighth and another in the
ninth for the 8-6 victory.

Baseball Suffers First Loss, 15-10, To Plattsburgh State
The Babson baseball team lost for the first time in 2009 on Sunday, as
the Beavers dropped a 15-10 decision to Plattsburgh State in Fort Myers,
Florida. With the loss, Babson dropped to 3-1 on the year, while the
Cardinals improved to 5-1.

Baseball Sweeps Bethel, 10-7 and 7-2, To Remain Unbeaten
The Babson College baseball team posted a double-header sweep of Bethel
University in Florida on Saturday, as the Beavers followed up a 10-7
extra-inning win with a 7-2 victory in the nightcap. Babson is now 3-0
on the year, while the Royals fell to 2-5. Sophomore Billy Besinger
(Milton, Mass.) led the Babson offense in the sweep, going 6-for-9 with
two doubles, three runs, and three RBIs. Junior Jake Bartlett (Weymouth,
Mass.) added four hits, including two doubles, to go with two runs and
four driven in, and junior Peter O'Toole (Salem, Mass.) contributed
three hits, four runs, and two RBIs. Senior righty Matt Barton
(Washingtonville, N.Y.) pitched three shutout innings of relief to earn
the win in game one, while junior Michael O'Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.)
picked up the victory in game two with seven outstanding innings of
one-run ball.

Baseball Opens With 9-6 Win Over Augustana
The Babson College baseball team opened its 2009 campaign with a 9-6
victory over Augusta College (IL) on Friday afternoon in the first game
of the team's spring break trip to Fort Myers, Florida. Sophomore Andrew
Aizenstadt started and earned his first win of the season for the
Beavers, while senior Chris Legrow notched his second career save.
Offensively, the Beavers were led by sophomore shortstop Corey Highfield
(East Hampstead, N.H.), who went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three
RBIs. It was his second career four-hit performance. Sophomore Jeff
Browne (Vorhees, N.J.) added three hits, including a double, and scored
three runs, while sophomore Billy Besinger (Milton, Mass.) and
first-year Billy Miller (Sagamore beach, Mass.) each collected two hits.
