BABSON PARK, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2007 postseason baseball honors on Tuesday, and four Babson College athletes were recognized. Juniors Sam Whelan (Milton, Mass.) and Steve Tahmoush (Arlington, Mass.) were each named to the All-NEWMAC First Team, while sophomore Jeff Wojnar (Bellaire, Texas) was selected to the All-NEWMAC Second Team. In addition, first-year Peter O'Toole (Salem, Mass.) was chosen as the 2007 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year.

The ace of a Babson pitching staff that finished second in the league with a 3.45 ERA, Whelan enjoyed a spectacular junior season, going 6-1 with a 1.91 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 47.0 innings. He tied for the league lead in victories while ranking second in ERA and third in strikeouts. The junior righthander also recorded three complete games and one shutout - both team highs.

Right fielder Tahmoush also enjoyed a magnificent season for Babson, batting .387 with 10 doubles, three triples, two homers, 39 runs scored, 24 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases in 37 games. He led the NEWMAC in hits while ranking second in runs, steals, and triples, third in doubles, ninth in RBIs and 10th in homers. His 18 stolen bases set a new Babson single-season record, while his 13-game hitting streak midway through the season was Babson's longest since 2003.

Wojnar played well both at the plate and on the mound this spring. Offensively, he led the team and ranked second in the league with a .390 average in 22 games, recording 30 hits, three doubles, a homer, 14 runs scored, and 16 RBIs. He also came up big for the Beavers on the hill, going 5-3 with a 3.14 ERA in eight games. His 33 strikeouts and two complete games both ranked second on the team behind Whelan.

O'Toole earned NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors after ranking third on the team and 14th in the league with a.339 average in his first collegiate campaign. In 31 games, the freshman outfielder recorded 39 hits, five doubles, a triple, 16 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 18 RBIs.
